About EKASS

East Kootenay Addiction Services Society (EKASS) provides alcohol and drug counselling. Our free, confidential services are available to anyone dealing with their own or someone else's addiction or substance misuse.

Our qualified, friendly staff are here to help you. We offer a number of programs to support different people with diverse issues; outpatient counselling, day programs, support groups, home detox, methadone, and prevention programs are all part of what we do. A comprehensive list of our programs is available on our programs page, which gives more details about programs and dates or times that each program runs.

We have offices in five communities in the East Kootenay region. Our staff is available from 8:30am to 4:30pm (closed from 12 – 1pm) on weekdays to answer any questions you might have, so please do not hesitate to call. See the list at the side to find contact information for each office, or fill out our contact form and someone will respond to your question as soon as possible.

History

Counselling services were initially offered in 1978 through the East Kootenay Union Board of Health (responsible for funding and directing counselling services) under the name of Access East. In April 1989, the East Kootenay Health Society was incorporated by members of the East Kootenay Union Board of Health to provide counselling services under the name of East Kootenay Alcohol & Drug Counselling Services. In 1992, East Kootenay Alcohol & Drug Counselling Services was incorporated and was no longer under the umbrella of the East Kootenay Union Board of Health or the East Kootenay Health Society. And in July 2003, East Kootenay Alcohol & Drug Counselling Service Society changed their name to the current East Kootenay Addiction Services Society.
